What are your hours?
—
We are open Tuesdays through Saturdays, with a couple of artists working Mondays as well. We generally always open at 12.oo at the latest, but some of the artists take appointments earlier than this. The shop closes at 7.oo pm the earliest, but each artist sets up their own appointments and will often go later than this.
Where are you located?
—
65 Langton St, San Francisco, Ca, 94530.. We are in the South of Market (SOMA) neighborhood; Langton is just past 7th St and we're between Howard & Folsom.
Is there parking available?
—
There is a garage on Langton 25 yards from the shop, they charge between $7 and $10 flat rate for the day, and close at 7.oo pm. There is parking on Howard and Folsom that is metered until 6.oo pm, and one hour parking on Langton until 6.oo as well.
Do you take walk-ins?
—
Although we are primarily by appointment, we take walk-ins when we can. It's recommended you call the shop first to see if anyone is available, and if you're trying to get in after 7.oo pm or so your chances are slim. If you're trying to get something roughly bigger than the size of your hand or need a cover-up, an appointment is probably best, the same holds true if you'd like to be tattooed with one or more friends. If a particular date is important to you or if you are visiting town, make an appointment! If you are traveling, especially to sunny climates, make your appointment at least 2 weeks before you leave.
How old do I need to be to be tattooed?
—
18, with ID, no exceptions.
Can I make an appointment over the phone?
—
No. Because we are an all-custom shop your one-of-a-kind tattoo needs to be discussed in a face to face consultation. A cash deposit is also required.
How long is the wait list for appointments?
—
This depends on the artist you'd like to work with, but it can vary from one day to several months.
What will my tattoo cost?
—
There is a slight variation in hourly rates from artist to artist, so it's best to consult with them on pricing. For small-ish single-session pieces we charge a flat rate which can be quoted to you before you start the tattoo. We have a $100 minimum. Estimates can not be given over the phone or by email as details regarding the work need to be discussed one-on-one.
How do I choose an artist?
—
There are 9 artists at Seventh Son; all are more than competent at the basics as well as several styles they each specialize in. Check out the shop website; it also has links to individual artists' websites; check out our most recent work on our blog and facebook page, or drop by the shop to look at portfolios. Once you choose an artist you can set up a consultation with them by phone, email, or in person. During a consultation you have time to explain your ideas and get input from the artist. Bringing reference is not necessary but can help give the artist a clearer idea of elements you might want in your tattoo. For larger pieces and pieces that incorporate existing tattoos a tracing of the body part will need to be taken. Sometimes an artist will let you know that they think they're not the right person for the job and can recommend you to someone else in the shop.
Do I need to leave a deposit?
—
Yes, after the consultation. Usually it will be $100, but for larger pieces the artist might require more. The deposit goes towards the last session of the tattoo if it's a multiple-session piece. It serves two purposes- to cover a small amount of the cost of the time spent drawing if you decide to cancel the tattoo, and to hold future appointment dates. Speak to your artist about their cancellation protocol, but usually at least 48 hours notice is needed or else your deposit will be lost.
Do you take credit cards?
—
No, we only take cash, required upon completion of each session. There is an ATM in a cafe around the corner. Some artists will also allow you to use their paypal accounts, inquire with them.
Do you do conventions?
—
Each artist has their own convention schedules, check all of our media outlets online or just inquire with them. The same applies to guest spots at other shops.
What do I need to do to prepare for my tattoo session?
—
Most importantly be sure to eat something substantial before your session. Don't come in drunk or hungover. Don't come in sick or sunburned. Bringing a friend for moral support is fine but please don't bring a crowd. Remember we only take cash. Mentally prepare for some discomfort but get excited for an excellent tattoo!
How do I take care of my new tattoo?
—
Everyone with one small tattoo is a tattoo expert and has their opinion on the best way to care for a fresh tattoo. You'll also find loads of advice online. Listen to and follow the instructions of your tattooer! We are professionals, trust us. Each of us might have some variations in after-care methods, but in general it's pretty simple. You'll be bandaged by your tattoo artist, he/she will tell you when to remove it. Keeping the tattoo clean is essential, but only requires your everyday soap and warm water. Quick showers are fine but it's important not to soak in a tub or go swimming until it's completely healed. You also need to keep it out of the sun while it's healing. Your artist can talk to you about the best way to deal with any workouts you may do regularly, but in general you're going to need to take a break for a few days at the bare minimum, depending on what you do. Your artist will also give you advice on what to apply to your tattoo and how often. Take care not to disrupt/pick/scratch at any dry flakey skin or light scabbing that might occur. The healing process usually takes 10-14 days, feel free to call the shop if you have any questions.
Do you do piercings?
—
Never.
Are you looking for apprentices?
—
