LUKE STEWART
Biography
Luke Stewart, a renowned tattoo artist and former Mixed Martial Arts fighter, is the owner of Seventh Son tattoo. Luke began tattooing at the age of 20 in San Francisco, beginning his career at Goldfields tattoo—one of the city’s most historic tattoo shops. He moved on to work with other artists throughout the Bay Area before opening Seventh Son in 2006 with partners Jason Kundell, and Erik Rieth. Luke became sole owner of Seventh Son in 2015.
Luke fought professionally from 2006-2010 for the now defunct Strikeforce. After 4 years of balancing tattooing with a rigorous training schedule, Luke decided to hang up the gloves and focus on refining his craft. After the studio's two re-locations within the SOMA district, Luke was able to secure a permanent home for Seventh Son in the neighborhood that has been its home for over a decade.
Luke works almost exclusively in the Japanese style and has cultivated his own unique brand of this style. He currently enjoys working on large-scale tattoos, and particularly interested in projects inspired by Japanese folklore. Luke has had his work published in various books, magazines, and film series. He also had his work displayed in an exhibit entitled “Perseverance: Japanese Tattoo Tradition in a Modern World” at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles.
